and why?Is the centaurus constellation western or non- western mythology?Centaurus is a Latin word ... doesnt that tell you something?
The Centaur is one of the Southern constellations that is visible from the Mediterranean.
Most if not all constellations have Greek or Latin names.
The few stars that have Arab names got their names by borrowing from Arabic in the middle ages when Arabic astronomy books which were often based on lost Alexandrian Greek texts were translated into Latin.
Is the centaurus constellation western or non- western mythology? It would be western, as it is named after the centaur, the half-horse, half-man from Greek mythology. Since Greece is part of the west, and greek mythology comes from Greece, that makes it western mythology.
