Well the simplest way has already been said... the sun rises in the east and sets in the west... so you can work out north from that....
But as you mention the stars are we to assume you are trying to find direction at night?
Again there are many country ways - like the moss growing on trees and prevailing winds etc - but I personally wouldn't rely on this.
Silly thought but if you have a map and can see any landmark or town lit up at night you can get your direction.Without using compass and star constellation how could i detect that im already in the north direction ?I don't know, by finding some moss growing on a tree, 'cause it only grows on the north side.Without using compass and star constellation how could i detect that im already in the north direction ?
Just to clear things up.
Moss grows predominantly on the north side of trees, rocks, etc.
The direction where the Sun rises needs not be east. It can be anywhere between NE and SE, depending on the season.
If you have the whole day on hand, however, you can determine north as being the direction directly between the sunrise and sunset directions.Without using compass and star constellation how could i detect that im already in the north direction ?remember that the sun falls on the east face that and you,ll get true north. or in it absence always find a landmark where true east is and on your right is true north
Ask someone to point you north. Alternatively, you could just spin round 360degrees. You can then use Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle to either define the time or direction but not both.
Another solution is to walk due south. When you pass the south pole (easily distinguished by its red and white stripes and lack of polar bears), you will be pointing exactly north. If you don't like the idea of walking so far, it will also work if you use your bike.Without using compass and star constellation how could i detect that im already in the north direction ?A couple ways come to mind. It is said that moss only grows on the north side of trees. Also, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, so if you have the sunrise at your right, you are facing north.Without using compass and star constellation how could i detect that im already in the north direction ?
You can use a gyroscope or a GPS instead.
you can never be in the north until u r sitting on the north pole but can locate north just you need to know where the sun rises from ie when u face east north is to your leftWithout using compass and star constellation how could i detect that im already in the north direction ?
sun rises in east and sets in west.
as already mentioned you can assume north as the direction in which the trees grow.....The sunis a much better way though...........
it grows chiller as you travel towards the north(pole):-))
Those are the main methods of checking your direction. Alternatively you could use a map and look for where landmarks are with respect to yourself.
GPS!
that will work.
to anyone that suggested using the sun, that is a star.
