I need to find the location of the Horsehead Nebula on Orion the constellation. I am drawing out all of Orion for a presentation and I just cannot find a diagram that displays the location [and what stars it is near]
Thank you.
p.s. If you know of more nebulae than the horsehead nebula and the Orion nebula in the Orion constellation, please post. It is greatly appreciated.Nebula on Orion the Constellation? The Horsehead Nebula is adjacent to Alnitak/Zeta Orionis, the eastern-most star in Orion's Belt. It is part of a complex that includes the Flame Nebula.
M78 is in Orion as well, a reflection nebula. There is also Barnard's Loop, and the "bubble" around the stars at the north end of Orion.
Addendum: this also shows the bias of the media: the Horsehead Nebula is a *very* difficult target in a telescope (I've never seen it myself), though it is relatively easy to photograph (I have photographed it myself). M78 is far easier to see in a telescope.Nebula on Orion the Constellation?
Here is what stars it's near http://astro.nineplanets.org/twn/b33x.ht鈥?/a>
Here is some drawings etc ..

Any other help needed for your presentation my email is on my profile
good luck!Nebula on Orion the Constellation? It's halfway down his sword - the three stars underneath the three stars of the belt.Nebula on Orion the Constellation?
Try downloading Google Earth. Then switch to sky and enter Orion in the search box. Once there, find Orion's belt. The leftmost belt star and the one connected to Betelgeuse is called Alnitak. Right under Alnitak is the Horsehead Nebula. The head is pointing towards the bottom right.
The Orion Nebula is a lot bigger and is that fuzzy patch as seen by the naked eye under the belt.Nebula on Orion the Constellation? The horsehead nebula is surrounding the star Alnitak (The bottom left star in orion's belt, nearest the east)
Alnitak is also known as Zeta Orionis.Nebula on Orion the Constellation?
Orion is one of the richest constellations in the sky for nebulae of all kinds. The Orion Nebula (Messier 42 and 43) is the brightest emission nebula in the sky. Messier 78 is a reflection nebula. The Horsehead Nebula is a dark nebula, and extremely difficult to see; like Laura, I've never seen it, even though I have observed hundreds of other deep sky objects. It is located half a degree south of Alnitak, the easternmost star in Orion's Belt. There's also a huge nebula encompassing most of Orion called Barnard's Loop, mainly captured in wide field images.
