On this I agree with BO. It may be the only thing. The space program is a waste of money; always has been and always will be.
Did he do that? Good for him! What a huge waste of money! Sure it would be cool, but it is not worth an unlimited amount of money.
The astronauts have already been there and gathered the required data, now it is onward for additional space exploration. We the people of course have not received the 'real information", so it is hard to justify any additonal space travel for "no reasonable return". Cover-up? probably. Isn't that the usual modus operandi?
It's not an entitlement program, and there's no way to tax it. It also would demonstrate America's technological superiority. Mustn't have that.

Something like 25% of our GDP went into the moon program - you got that kind of money?

The moon program was the REASON for the very high taxes in the late 60's and early 70's - you guys would flip out if Obama asked you for even one cent in taxes to pay for them. You know that right?

And nobody's landing on mars - not and coming back anyway, the logistics are a nightmare, it will never happen until we invent a completely NEW kind of power source, guaranteed!
